Largest timetable change in 30 years
The Caledonian Sleeper is an iconic sleeper train offering overnight services from London to Scotland. According to the train operators, their latest timetable change to now include Birmingham, is the biggest shift in 30 years. As the UK’s central hub, Birmingham has the largest UK city population outside of London, with over 1 million people residing in the city centre.
Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William services will now travel to and from London via Birmingham. This timetable addition is due to Birmingham being located in the heart of the country, offering pivotal transport links to the rest of the nation.
Richard Parker, Mayor of the West Midlands, said: “This iconic service means people from across the West Midlands will soon be able to travel comfortably and sustainably to discover the stunning beauty of northern Scotland. But this also means our Scottish friends can come and explore the wonderful West Midlands. That’s a win-win for our tourism and hospitality businesses on both sides of the border.”
The new service is set to increase visitors into Birmingham city centre, with the first service departing on the 15th January 2026.
