The UK government is currently reviewing plans to build a high-speed trains service connecting Manchester to Birmingham and the West Midlands.
New proposals to revive the train link are expected to be launched next week, alongside the Northern Powerhouse Rail project. The new link to Manchester is expected to ease pressure on the West Coast main line, which is frequently busy with travellers.
The proposal is supported by Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, who said ‘We have a government with an ambitious vision for the North”.
HS2 – the high-speed railway to connect Birmingham with London in under an hour is still in the works, with further updates on the project expected soon.
