Birmingham city council has announced today new budget proposals set to deliver a funding boost to public services. In budget documents made public ahead of an upcoming council meeting, the city council states its financial situation for 2026-27 will be “balanced”, with services set for £130m investment.
This is a positive milestone for both the council and the city, with Leader Cllr John Cotton observing: “I’m ambitious for Birmingham’s future. Now we will step up our work with West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker and the Government to invest in our communities, delivering the homes, jobs and services that the people of this city deserve.”
Birmingham as a city is currently undergoing a major transformation, with regeneration projects worth over £3bn taking place across the city. New public realm, office bases, football stadiums, new markets and leisure facilities are all being created, driving further growth for the West Midlands. Birmingham is set to be one of the strongest UK cities for property growth, and is set to see a 24% sales property value increase over the next five years alone.
