The Wilderness becomes seventh Birmingham restaurant to achieve a Michelin star

10/02/26

Birmingham secures another Michelin star, with fine-dining “Rock and Roll” restaurant The Wilderness securing its first Michelin star this week.

Located in the Jewellery Quarter, The Wilderness serves “provocative, playful tasting menus” in a restored factory, set to the soundtrack of rock, punk, and heavy metal. Fine dining that swaps white tablecloths for dark walls, neon, graffiti and an indie-rock soundtrack, Chef Alex Claridge and his team serve intricate yet bold plates.

The Michelin guide praised Chef Alex Claridge, highlighting dishes such as the restaurant’s take on brioche bread and butter pudding with barbecued brassicas and a delicate dessert of smoked chocolate and prunes.

Restaurant owner and founder Alex Claridge said: “Birmingham doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it’s serious about food, and I think everyone wants to have a good time.” The restaurant first opened 10-years ago, and has long been recognised locally as a top spot in the city for fine dining.

Birmingham boasts an impressive seven restaurants with Michelin stars – the most in the UK outside of London, with the food scene one of the most exciting in the country.
