Birmingham Airport has announced new plans on how to allocate £300 million in spending, as its passenger numbers are set to surge. Currently, the international airport sees almost 14 million passengers a year, served by 35 airlines.
The new spending is set to be utilised to improve passenger experience for those travelling through the airport, with projects such as new food and drink outlets, improvements to the airfield, and additional e-Gates set to be introduced.
The airport have said they plan to commit £75M being spent on airport improvements every year up until 2029. Baggage capacity is also a key priority, to add an additional carousel and expand the border control area.
Richard Parker, West Midlands mayor, said the airport was “backing the West Midlands even more with a £300m investment, helping to drive economic growth across the West Midlands and the whole of the UK.”
