Birmingham district ranked one of the ‘coolest’ in the world

07/10/25

Listed higher than New York, Rio de Janeiro and Hong Kong

Birmingham’s oldest suburb, Digbeth, has just been ranked one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by Time Out.

An incredible recognition, Time Out magazine lists just 39 districts across the world, with only two UK boroughs making the ranking. Digbeth in Birmingham ranked in a commendable 13th place, higher than Red Hook, New York (14th), Burwood in Sydney (16th) and Botafogo in Rio de Janeiro (29th).

Digbeth is renowned as Birmingham’s creative quarter, with a neighbourhood brimming with artists, writers and filmmakers, in addition to the upcoming new base for the BBC – one of the country’s largest broadcasters.

One of the most recognisable areas in the city, just moments from the Bullring and Grand Central, Digbeth boasts independent restaurants, quirky shops and bustling bars, offering a unique social atmosphere.

The recent ranking by Time Out further establishes Birmingham as a leading destination not only in the UK but in Europe.
