Announced last week, Birmingham has been revealed as a 2028 Euros host city, with four games set to be played in Aston Villa’s Villa Park. Birmingham was revealed with it’s own host city logo, which depicts the iconic Library of Birmingham.

The European Championships (Euros) is a major highlight of the competitive football calendar. The additional stadiums selected in the UK to host games are: Wembley Stadium (London), Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (London), Principality Stadium (Cardiff), Etihad Stadium (Manchester), Hill Dickinson Stadium (Liverpool), St James’ Park (Newcastle), Hampden Park (Glasgow), Aviva Stadium (Dublin).

‘World-class’ stadiums across eight host cities including Birmingham have been selected, with Birmingham set to host four games for fans next June. The huge sporting event taking place in Birmingham has created a buzz of excitement around the city, with Birmingham City Council saying the tournament will create “long-lasting benefits for communities through an amazing celebration of top-class international football.”

As a direct result of the Euros being held in Birmingham, the city is expected to see around £117M of economic impact.

Guy Rippon, Head of Foundation and Community at Aston Villa Foundation, said “It’s a really good opportunity to showcase what we’re all about as a city. With that comes the economic impact, creation of jobs, volunteering opportunities – there’s a huge amount of benefit for Birmingham.”
